Housatonic Council Boy Scout camp
reunion planned in Goshen
DERBY - First opened in 1961 as
Housatonic Scout Reservation and renamed
in 1990 the Edmund D. Strang Scout
Reservation, the 186 acre Boy Scout camp
in Goshen, CT owned and operated by the
Derby based Housatonic Council has been
providing youths
with an outdoor overnight
adventure for 49 years. The search is on
to locate former
camp staff and camp alumni for an
upcoming reunion event at the camp
on July 17 from noon to 5PM.
Several hundred people are expected to
attend. The cost of the event is $10 per
person or $20 per family and includes a
barbeque lunch.
Former
Housatonic Council Scout Executive Philip
Warner and 50 year BSA member Charles
Hemstreet Sr. will be honored with James
E. West endowment awards for significant
contributions to the camp. Several of
the camp program areas will be open and
memorabilia will be on display including
early movies of the camp as it was being
constructed.
Alumni association organizers
include Kevin Moyher, Peter Gajdosik,
Fr. Christopher Tiano, Ned Miller, Henry
Decho, Bill Martin, Matt Decho, Mark
Casiglio, Will Schmitt, Kyle Casiglio, Patrick
McDonnell, Tom Transue, Rodney Erickson
and Randy Ritter.
In addtion to current addresses for all
former staff and campers, the Housatonic
Council Boy Scouts camp alumni
association is looking for help in
identifying the names of the 1966 camp
staff photo attached.
